Gemeinde La Chaux-de-Fonds (Kanton Neuenburg) La Chaux-de-Fonds gehört neben Biel/Bienne und Le Locle zu den bekanntesten Uhrenstädten der Schweiz. Es ist die grösste Stadt im Hochjura und die viertgrösste Stadt in der Romandie. La Chaux-de-Fonds liegt auf rund 1'000mü.M. (Bahnhof: 994 m) und ist damit eine der höchstgelegenen grösseren Städte Europas. Als grössere politische Gemeinde ist La Chaux-de-Fonds auch Hauptort des gleichnamigen Distrikts im Kanton Neuenburg. Trotz seiner Grösse hat es mit dem ausgedehnten, nur sehr dünn besiedelten Umland einen gewissen ruralen Charakter behalten können, was ihm auch den Namen Ville à la campagne (Stadt auf dem Land) eingetragen hat.Wegen des architektonischen Wertes der schachbrettartig angelegten Bebauung und der zahlreichen Jugendstilbauten wurde La Chaux-de-Fonds im Jahre 2009 zum UNESCO-Welterbe erklärt.
